Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance

In 2002, the National Security Agency (NSA) first designated New Mexico Tech as a Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) in Information Assurance Education. This recognition highlighted New Mexico Tech among other prestigious universities such as Purdue, Carnegie Mellon, and Stanford. Universities applying for this recognition must pass a rigorous review of ten criteria demonstrating the school's commitment to academic excellence in information assurance. These criteria include: attaining or exceeding national standards in curriculum; having faculty who have expertise with published papers in information assurance; and having an on-campus research center, which ICASA serves as. Recently, New Mexico Tech successfully reapplied to retain the recognition as a Center of Academic Excellence for academic years 2005-2008. As of April 2006, there are 66 centers across 27 states and the District of Columbia.
